And one of the best places to volunteer may be right near you: Animal Outreach of Cape May County.Whether you work at the adoption booth at PetSmart, or place donation cans in local businesses, stuff envelopes for an educational mailing or assist with a fund-raising event, you will make a difference in the lives of animals. When you give animals the gift of your time, you’ll get back even more.
We are reaching out to you and your friends because we believe your help in volunteering is a huge part of the solution.
Wondering what’s in it for you? Here are just a few of the benefits of volunteering:
Be part of the solution. You’ll join a network of people working to make the world safe and more humane for all living creatures. You’ll make the jobs of everyone working for animals a little easier by lending a hand and spreading the message of responsible pet ownership.
Get warm fuzzies. You’ll never find a more grateful and accepting comrade than an animal you have comforted. Who can’t use another loyal support in life?
Keep good company. You’ll make lots of new friends—and not just the four-legged kind. Working side by side with people who share similar interests can forge lifelong friendships.
Meet the new you. You’ll discover skills you never knew you had, and you may be surprised at what you’re capable of achieving.
Gain a new career. You’ll learn things that may lead you to the career—or career change—of your dreams. Employers and college admissions officers look favorably on time spent in volunteer service.
Enjoy a wagging tail, a purr, and a smile. Didn’t someone once say that the best things in life are free?

Since 1998, Animal Outreach of Cape May County has helped more than 2,000 pets find loving, permanent homes! In May 2007, fire destroyed our trailers at the time, killing all 37 cats inside. Since then, we have housed dogs and cats in need of homes in a comprehensive foster care network, but we desperately need a new home. We continue to spend from our operating funds and Rosie’s Fund to help animals every day. This is central to our mission and separate from our building fund.
In 2004, we purchased the land necessary to build a home. This purchase was very well timed and we are delighted that we have grown such great equity in the property! An architect has prepared plans and is taking bids from builders and we have begun planning for preliminary ground-testing on the land. Our objective is to erect a 100x50’ structure and use it as the only state-of-the-art, “no-kill” animal shelter and sanctuary in the region.
Because the land needs to be prepared for the building, the entire cost for the building, finishing, supplies, and operating costs for the first year are estimated at between $675,000 and $875,000. So far we have reached 10% of our goal, and we plan to launch our Building Fund Campaign, which will be announced Fall 2008. This funding will help:
The goal would be to raise the funds by Spring/Summer 2010 with a groundbreaking ceremony at that time. Work would be completed with a grand opening between Fall 2010 and Spring 2011. Blueprints and rendering of the building will be available this fall once we have selected a building contractor.
Thank you for sharing our mission to create a safe, state-of-the-art, no-kill shelter and sanctuary in our region. The need for this structure has never been greater. We look forward to your continued support.
